The Circle of Death
With how spiritually connected to nature the arpines are it would surprise one that the galaxy's first planet-killer was an arpine invention. However, arpines also have a saying in their culture to "keep sharp claws and your quills on your tail" which extends to policy when in the vicinity of hostile nations. After the end of the Third Gronican War the Aeronian Union considered proposals for a form of deterrent to prevent future conflicts and superweapons were disproportionately advocated for by the arpine members on the AU military development council.
Many proposals were laid down such as RKKV batteries and ship-deployed mantle-penetrating bombs. However, the superweapon proposal that would pass was a massive mobile platform that could devastate a whole world in one shot. It did not take months to accelerate nor was subject to the interstellar medium like RKKVs and would be much more efficient than any bombardment. Proposed at 50 kilometers wide it was to be a scaled up version of the Sincerity-class' astral particle collider antimatter cannon. A full-powered blast would turn the target planet's atmospehre into a firestorm and cause the entire upper mantle and lithosphere to ripple and move like a fluid turning the planet's outer layers into a magma ocean 200 kilometers deep killing every lifeform and destroying every installment above and below the surface.
The arpine scientist known as Aurthor Hoarfrost was hired to lead the development of the project as a private contractor. Aurthor was a strange and seclusive individual, those around him and those who had to work with him noted that he gave off a negative aura and would usually try to avoid him. He could also be heard muttering curses to other people under his breath. But despite his inability to get along with others he had the intellectual skill required for the job at hand.
Aurthor had made his expertise known with experimental energy and matter weapons known when he worked as an apprentice to the lead of the Sincerity class' cannon development project, he made a suggestion that actually increased the efficiency of the weapon 167% and the destructive power 235% which he was then credited for in the project notes. The military actually pushed back the development of the Sincerity-class to implement these changes to the bewilderment of planetside bureaucrats but to the delight of fleet officers, through this Aurthor had started quickly building his reputation and soon was one of the top contractors for weapons development.
When Aurthor received the contract for a planet killer he took it with a disturbing amount of passion and glee. He had more enthusiasm than would be appropriate for an arpine developing a weapon that can end an entire biosphere, something which most arpines hold culturally and religiously sacred. The engineers in Aurthor's staff took personal notes and wrote their opinions both on the project's development and Aurthor himself, one assistant (who's name is redacted by their own request) wrote this to a member of high command:
"The development of the weapon is on schedule, although I and most of the staff are taking on the task with the full weight of it's implications on our minds. Though unofficial, a name for this necessary abomination has been floating around among the staff. 'The Circlebreaker', that's what they're calling it, I suppose there is no better name for something that can end the circle of life definitively and permanently. Our lead seems to be all too happy about our progress and it puts me off, and to be honest I want to be as far away from that guy as possible, especially after he insulted me for wearing my amulet at work. Anyways, I just hope that our work can succeed in it's intended goal of deterring more wars from happening and we can get on to what I consider better projects."
When completed the weapon is to be tested under the command of the 4th fleet on a barren uninhabited super earth type planet in an undisclosed system.
